Danny Murphy names Naby Keita the “worst signing” of the Jurgen Klopp era

Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy has pointed out midfielder Naby Keita as Liverpool’s worst signing in recent times.

Danny Murphy has claimed on talkSPORT that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is the worst signing in the era of Jurgen Klopp. The Reds have been battling tough times on the pitch as they have endured a very different start compared to the last few seasons.

The gap with the top four has widened with each passing week as losses against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United have put them in a very difficult position.

Jurgen Klopp has a tough task in his hand as grabbing a top-four place would be a monument to climb. Anfield also lost its fortress tag as Leeds inflicted a home defeat, and it was Virgil van Dijk’s first home loss as his remarkable 70-match unbeaten run in the Premier League came to a halt.

The Reds were also humiliated by Napoli earlier this season. And with injuries piling up, this upcoming World Cup make or break Liverpool’s season. The likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Joel Matip and Arthur Melo are currently in the treatment room and have made the club ponder various options on the field.

Keita especially has struggled for consistency and hasn’t been much help as far as Liverpool’s recent success is concerned. Danny Murphy has now insisted that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is the worst signing since Jurgen Klopp came on board.

“Although I think Fabinho is a bit down on his form, with him, Thiago [Alcantara] and [Jordan] Henderson fit and playing every week I don’t think the midfield is as big a problem as people make out.

“Although you would like more choice. [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain is never fit. [Naby] Keita’s probably been the worst signing out of the big ones, all the others have done well.

“And the two young lads, although super talents, you can’t rely on them week in week out, it’s not fair.

“So, an overview would be there’s lots to improve on and it’s not going to happen overnight.

“The World Cup is going to be a welcome break for Liverpool I think, I really do.”

Keita’s current contract is up for expiry in the summer, and this could be his last season in a Liverpool shirt. With several Premier League keeping tabs on his situation, the player might depart from Anfield soon.
