Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has taken a dig at Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for dragging on negotiations with Atalanta over Cristian Romero.
Tottenham’s summer planning may not have been ideal, but they are making the right moves of late. The North Londoners could make quality additions to their squad before the transfer deadline. In the past weeks, one of their primary targets has been Atalanta defender Cristian Romero, with a deal hanging in the balance.
Earlier reports suggested Spurs might be advanced in their negotiations with Atalanta, but as it stands, both clubs are still far apart on their valuation of the player. Confirmed by reliable sources such as Fabrizio Romano, the Italian club are yet to accept Spurs’ latest offer, despite the Premier League giants agreeing on personal terms with Romero.
New technical director Fabio Paratici has been at the forefront of multiple negotiations and has become in charge of what looks like a defensive rebuild at the club. Long-serving defender Toby Alderweireld has already left the club for Qatar, while Davinson Sanchez, also expected to be sold.
Spurs chased Jules Kounde, but the Sevilla defender now looks inclined to join their London rivals, Chelsea. Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, however, seems closer to a move, although star striker Harry Kane’s future still hangs in the balance, with Manchester City circling the England captain.

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has given his opinion on the entire situation surrounding Spurs and Romero, although this is not the first time Mills has given his bit on the business done in North London. Recently he questioned whether Ben White was better than Andreas Christensen while also suggesting why Liverpool should sign Harry Kane under the noses of Manchester City.
The former Manchester City defender was at it again, this time taking a dig at Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for dragging on the Romero deal. Mills expressed his views over the transfer saga to Football Insider and poked fun at Levy’s style of conducting transfer negotiations.
He said, “Transfer saga drawn out by Tottenham? Who would have thought? Wonders will never cease. I’m sure Daniel Levy is arguing about who pays his flight over, whether he travels in economy or economy-plus! This is what Tottenham do. He’s a shrewd business operator, but I’m sure if Nuno wants him, he will try all he can to get him in.”
While plane tickets might be a costly affair at times, transfer sagas are all about shaving a few million by negotiating. Of course, Mills’s words’ emotion and meaning are understood; the defender is clearly not a fan of dragged out deals.
As things stand, Tottenham are reportedly on course to sit down again with Atalanta to drag this deal even further. However, there is solid hope of Tottenham eventually signing Romero in this window and then possibly moving on to other important targets. The only question is, will there be enough time for other players?
