Daniel Bachmann confirms Manchester United contact

Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has confirmed holding talks with Manchester United over a summer switch to Old Trafford.

With Dean Henderson subjected to a move to Newcastle United, Manchester United are facing a major dilemma as they look to add strong competition for David de Gea next season.

Manchester United are scouting the market for a new goalkeeper in the upcoming summer transfer window. They have been linked with a move to Newcastle’s very own Karl Darlow, but it appears the club favour a move for Daniel Bachmann, who was recently relegated to the Championship with Watford.

Recent reports suggest Manchester United are determined to sign Bachmann as part of Erik ten Hag’s plan to offer more competition for de Gea. The Spaniard is entering the final phase of his career, and Manchester United would require a long-term deputy sooner rather than later.

It appears Manchester United have made the first move to sign Bachmann as well, as confirmed by the 27-year-old goalkeeper himself, in a recent interview with Krone (h/t Sky Austria).  When asked about his recent links to Old Trafford, Bachmann stated, “There was contact, it was not plucked from the air.”

“Hey, it’s Manchester United, a huge honor if such a club is interested in you,” he added. Although Bachmann stated there could be other suitors vying for his services in the coming summer, he suggests “there was the most intensive contact with Manchester.”

Bachmann, who is also an Austrian international, is set to be coached by Ralf Rangnick later this summer. Although the German tactician has left his gig at Manchester United, Bachmann was asked if Rangnick’s involvement played a part in his negotiations with the Premier League giants.

“I don’t know if the team boss has a say in the transfers,” the 27-year-old replied, before going on to offer a neutral stance on his contract situation and overall future at Watford. “I am happy at Watford, have a contract until 2024, now only in mind that we will rise again immediately. Everything else is not in my hands,” he added.

Daniel Bachmann’s comments do confirm Manchester United’s interest in the goalkeeper, but with Karl Darlow also on the radar, it will be interesting to see whether the Austrian international ends up at Old Trafford later this summer.
