Cristiano Ronaldo continued a fine year with yet another individual award as he won the Ballon d’Or ahead of Lionel Messi for the second successive year.
After winning La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Best Male Player award, among others in 2017, Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the Ballon d’Or yet again – the fifth time in his career and the second year in a row.
The Real Madrid superstar is now tied on Ballon d’Or honours with Lionel Messi, who finished second, with his former Barcelona teammate Neymar finishing third. Suffice to say, his fans were in celebratory mood following the announcement.

Unsurprisingly, Messi’s fans begged to differ, claiming that the Argentine wizard should have instead won the award.

Meanwhile, there were a few who simply appreciated both legends and their presence in the same generation of footballers.
What the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi Story has taught me.
Some were born to do a particular thing. And they have talents.
But if the ones who aren’t, work hard enough, they will make as much impact as those who are#CristianoRonaldo #BallondOr #Messi pic.twitter.com/CxhkGdnLS7— young #BIGIANO? (@femoPhantom) December 8, 2017
In 20 years, Ronaldo will be considered like a modern day Gerd Muller. A ruthless scoring machine.
Messi will be remembered as an entertainer who did the impossible on a weekly basis.
There never has been, or will be, a comparison between the 2.#Messi

Messi vs Ronaldo debate is actually so dead and you shouldn’t waste your time arguing about it on twitter because at the end of the day no one will have their opinions changed. So stop comparing the best footballers to ever live and just appreciate greatness. pic.twitter.com/p9B1q4UJqH
