Cristhian Mosquera leaves door open for future return to Valencia

Cristhian Mosquera expressed his ‘love’ for his former side, Valencia and left the door open for a potential return in the future.

Cristhian Mosquera was considered one of the best defensive prospects in Spain after some stellar and consistent performances for Valencia. Having made 90 senior appearances for the Spanish strugglers, there was plenty of admiration in the market for the centre-back.

Mosquera was close to signing for RB Leipzig at one stage, but the financial differences between the two clubs ensured there was an impasse in agreeing on a deal. However, Arsenal’s interest in the defender did come as a surprise to the North London fanbase, but certainly piqued the player’s attention.

Once Arsenal arrived at the stage and opened talks with Valencia, they were the main contenders for the defender. Mosquera even refused to sign a new deal, and had he done that, Valencia would have been in a stronger position to negotiate a higher fee.

Arsenal secured a deal with Valencia, and while there were initial doubts on how he would adapt to the Premier League, Mosquera has done exceptionally well in that regard. However, there are still aspects of his development under Mikel Arteta that could take his game to the next level.

Having arrived for a fee in the region of €15 million, Arsenal have done exceptionally well financially to secure one of the most promising defenders in Europe. Mosquera has already shown with his mature performances that he can be trusted to deputise for William Saliba and Gabriel, which makes the deal all the more brilliant from Arsenal’s perspective.

However, going back to the topic of Valencia, Mosquera was asked whether there is a possibility of a future return to the Spanish side. His comments that appeared on Marca certainly indicated that the defender has immense ‘love’ for the club, as the versatile €15 million Arsenal defender did not rule out a future reunion.

Mosquera said, “There’s nothing like Valencia. It’s a club that gave me everything from day one, a club that I’ve fallen in love with, a club that I’ve become. Who knows? Life takes many twists and turns. Football takes you one place one day, and another the next. But like Valencia, nothing; that’s for sure.”

As for the timeline for his return to Valencia, it may take years and years for that to happen. It could probably be a case that the versatile €15 million Arsenal defender makes a return in his later years, as currently he belongs to the top level of European football, starting with Arsenal.

The Arsenal fans are eager to see more of Mosquera in the near future, as they feel the club have found a rough diamond, especially for the paltry fee they paid. Mosquera has already made a tremendous impact on proceedings and will prove to be a solid acquisition for the depth of the team in a long season ahead.
