Chelsea put the loss to Spurs behind them as they notched up a convincing victory over reigning champions Leicester City to go seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The big news heading into the game against the Foxes on Saturday was the alleged bust-up between star striker Diego Costa and manager Antonio Conte. The official reason given for dropping the Spaniard was that he was suffering from a back injury, but his compatriot made sure the Blues didn’t miss him too much.

Left-back Marcos Alonso stepped up to the plate and scored a brace to give Chelsea a good advantage, before Pedro finished off the encounter with a third goal. It was a brilliant performance by Alonso, who became only the third Chelsea defender to score a brace in the Premier League.

After the game, the Chelsea faithful were full of praise for Alonso and he drew comparisons with Costa, as well as legendary Brazilian full-back Roberto Carlos. Fans also happily noted that another defender in Gary Cahill actually attempted a bicycle kick!
