Bruno Fernandes’ bombshell interview following the Bournemouth game has sparked fresh exit rumours with the Manchester United star admitting the club wanted to sell him.
Last summer, Bruno Fernandes was the subject of big interest from Al-Hilal, with the Saudi Pro League side then eager to lure the Manchester United star ahead of the Club World Cup. Fernandes decided against the move and chose to stay put at Old Trafford, which at the time was perceived as due to the current season being important in the context of the upcoming World Cup.
Of late, fresh rumours have come to the fore, with suggestions that Manchester United might consider offers for Fernandes ahead of January. Saudi sides are still interested in the Manchester United star, although the Portuguese international is probably not thinking about a move.
His stance from the summer remains, as Fernandes will not be forced out of the club even if Manchester United wants to conduct business. Meanwhile, following the Bournemouth result on Monday night, Fernandes has come out with a bombshell interview where he has revealed that the Red Devils wanted to sell him back in the summer.
In what now appears to be an explosive interview, the comments that Team Talk ran had an extensive look to it. He has said a lot about what transpired back in the summer as well as what the Manchester United star feels about the modern transfers, while insisting that it was Ruben Amorim who wanted to keep him at the club.
Fernandes said, “Until you win trophies, you’re not valued as much, regardless of the club and league you’re in.”
“I was valued, and what values me most has to be my club, although lately I feel like I’m on thin ice. In England, when a player starts approaching 30, they start thinking they need a makeover. It’s like the furniture.”
“The issue of loyalty isn’t viewed the same way it used to be. I could have left in the last transfer window; I would have earned much more money.”
“I was going to leave a season ago – I won’t say where – but I would have won many trophies that season. I decided to stay, also because of family reasons, but because I genuinely love the club. The conversation with the manager also made me stay.”
“But, from the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘if you leave, it’s not so bad for us.’ It hurts me a bit. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player who has nothing to criticise.”
Meanwhile, Fernandes also stated that it was Amorim who seemingly valued him and wanted to keep the skipper at the club, irrespective of what transpired in the background.
Fernandes continued, “I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all. Then, you see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much… that makes you sad.”
“The person who spoke to me was the president of Al Hilal, who called me directly. Ruben Neves sent me a message saying he wanted to talk to me. They wanted me to play in the Club World Cup with Al Hilal. It was already a love that came from the Jorge Jesus era; he had already called me in 2023.”
“I can’t complain, I’m very well paid, but obviously the difference is abysmal. That was never what guided me. If one day I have to play in Saudi Arabia, I’ll play in Saudi Arabia.”
There are a lot of things that Fernandes revealed that showed Manchester United’s intent with their club captain back in the summer. At the time, Amorim was indeed keen to keep Fernandes at the club in light of Saudi Pro League interest, and as the Portuguese international revealed, it was Al-Hilal.
Now, this bombshell interview certainly has opened fresh speculation over his future, as it remains to be seen whether the Manchester United star will leave next summer. A January transfer may not transpire, given he’s probably the most important player at the club in their bid to finish in the top four.
