Danish national team’s head coach Brian Riemer has heaped praise on 17-year-old Manchester United wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin, calling him “insanely exciting”.
In an interview with Viaplay, as relayed by Tips Bladet, Brian Riemer heaped praise on Chido Obi-Martin, hailing the Manchester United wonderkid as “insanely exciting”. The Danish national head coach also suggested that a senior debut might be on the cards for the teenage sensation in the coming years.
Riemer said, “Chido is a player who has played on our U18 national team, so it has become even stronger, so I think we should say, in order to follow the right business procedures, that we just have to make sure that we do it the right way. DBU has been in contact with him, the U-team coaches have been too.”
“I haven’t been yet, because it’s like there needs to be one more step. The senior national team requires one more step – you need to come in and play more regularly before the senior national team is an option for you. It’s hard to get there if you don’t play regularly for your club team.”
“Now there was talk about Mika Biereth, let’s say he should go ahead of him, but after all we are talking about someone who plays regularly in Monaco and scores a lot of goals. So, he is in a place now where it is insanely exciting, but he has to make his breakthrough now. That is the next step he has to focus on – breaking through at Manchester United – and from there he is a player who would be extremely interesting.”
Chido Obi-Martin has been one of the most exciting young attackers in England in the last few years. A native of Glostrup, the Dane spent most of his formative years in his homeland but rose in prominence during his spell with Arsenal. The youngster’s stint with the North London club ended last summer, with Manchester United winning the race to secure his services.
The youngster has gone from strength to strength in the youth division at Manchester United. In addition, the youngster recently broke into the first-team squad at Old Trafford, and he has made two impressive cameos for the Red Devils.
While Obi-Martin has yet to become a regular for the Manchester United first team, he should receive more game time in the coming weeks before the 2024/25 season ends. It will also not be surprising to see the 17-year-old Danish attacking wonderkid establish a foothold at Manchester United in the coming campaigns.
