Brendan Rodgers hints at Youri Tielemans exit amid Arsenal interest

Brendan Rodgers has conceded Youri Tielemans’ exit from Leicester City remains a possibility amid recent interest from Arsenal.

Youri Tielemans could be on the way out of Leicester City if a reasonable offer comes in for the Belgian. It’s a matter of time when the Foxes have to accept an offer that matches their valuation, as the Belgian has only 18 months left on his deal. Whether it is this month or in the summer remains the question.

Arsenal’s name has been thrown in the mix as serious contenders to sign Tielemans in the past week. The Gunners have reportedly opened talks with the Foxes over a move this month.

Arsenal have been looking for a solid midfield option to add to their ranks, with the likes of Juventus’ Arthur Melo and Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes linked with a move to the Emirates this month. However, if Tielemans is available for a move, naturally, most of the big clubs, including the north Londoners, could join the queue.

Tielemans has so far rejected an extension with the Foxes, and it’s a clear indication of his desire to join a bigger club. Arsenal could certainly fit the criteria, considering the club are on the ascendency and vying for a Champions League place next season.

Now, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has conceded the midfielder could leave the club to further his career and hinted at a possible exit without clarifying whether it will be this month or later. His comments appeared on Goal.com as he talked about the Belgian and his ambitions for the future.

Rodgers said, “Youri is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option. I would love it to be here at Leicester, that is natural, but I understand it’s a very short career. Once the player is committed, focused and professional, it’s never a worry for me.

“With Youri, you can see his joy of being here, he loves being here, and you have to respect these guys’ careers are short. If we are going to lose one we have to be ready for the next one to come in.”

Tielemans has grown into a key player for Leicester since joining from AS Monaco in 2019. He played a key role in their FA Cup triumph last year and can be a quality signing for Arsenal if they pull off the deal.
