Djurgarden attacking sensation Bo Hegland opens up about being linked with Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
Newcastle United’s interest in Bo Hegland is mounting, with Expressen reporting that representatives from the Premier League club attended Djurgarden’s match against Mjallby on Monday, where the 22-year-old Norwegian bagged two assists. Despite the attention, Hegland has downplayed speculation, insisting he remains fully focused on his development at the Swedish club.
“The simple answer is that I feel very comfortable in Djurgarden,” Hegland said via Expressen, before adding, “Maybe it would have been a different comment if I hadn’t enjoyed it so much. We play a football that suits me, I feel great on and off the field. It’s an easy choice.”
The Norwegian forward has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround after a difficult first few months at the club. This season, Hegland has exploded into life, scoring six goals and registering 14 assists in 19 Allsvenskan appearances. He has contributed towards 23 goals in his 24 outings across competitions.
The youngster’s output ranks him among Allsvenskan’s most productive attacking players, explaining the growing interest from Newcastle and other top-tier European clubs monitoring his progress.
Hegland focused on doing his best for Djurgarden
Newcastle United are not alone, as Anderlecht and Lorient have expressed interest in the young attacker, though Hegland has shown little inclination to pursue a move away from Sweden at this stage. On the possibility of a switch to Saudi Arabia, Hegland appeared dismissive.
“No, it’s probably a bit early. I’m enjoying playing in Djurgarden. Now that’s the focus.”
When pressed on his future and potential moves to the Premier League, Hegland struck a similarly measured tone.
“I don’t have any idea — you’ll have to ask the agent. onestly, I haven’t thought much about it. I’ve just been 100 percent committed to playing for Djurgarden, and that’s what I do. It’s of course fun that people are watching, but my focus is on developing in the Allsvenskan and becoming an even better player.
For now, Hegland’s immediate priority remains his development at Djurgarden. With 23 goal contributions across competitions this season, the 22-year-old has established himself as one of Allsvenskan’s standout attacking talents, a productivity rate that continues to draw attention from leading European clubs.
Newcastle have undergone some significant changes this summer. Having parted ways with some of their experienced campaigners, they are looking to build a new core, and Hegland could be an ideal addition for their long-term plans.
