It was a memorable night for Liverpool fans and more so for 17-year-old Academy prospect Ben Woodburn, who scored in the 81st minute in only his second appearance for the Reds to send Anfield wild with joy and excitement.
Another victory. another semi-final appearance in the EFL Cup. By the scheme of things recently, it was a routine outing for Liverpool except atl east for 17-year-old Ben Woodburn it wasn’t. The Reds emerged 2-0 victors over Leeds United with a goal from the academy prospect a cherry atop the cake of what was a memorable evening for those in attendance.
That said, the Championship side posed a veritable threat throughout the game with their attack constantly pressuring the Reds and if not for Simon Mignolet in goal, the scoreline would have told a much different story altogether. It was Origi who finally broke the deadlock for the Reds by connecting with a peach of a cross from Alexander-Arnold to send his side on their way to yet another League Cup semi-final.
The champagne moment, however, was the goal for Academy prodigy, Ben Woodburn who with his 81st minute strike broke a long-standing Michael Owen record of being the youngster ever goal-scorer for the club. The Reds faithful were abuzz with excitement and joy on twitter raving about their new-found talent.
