Barcelona were dealt a huge blow in their bid to win the La Liga title this season as Deportivo La Coruna beat the league leaders 2-1 at the Riazor on Sunday.
Barcelona had the opportunity to create some more headway between themselves and Real Madrid as they visited Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday. But by the end of the ninety minutes, the Blaugrana’s title hopes suffered a major setback as the hosts ran out 2-1 winners at the Riazor.
That was a result of Barcelona following up their magical display against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday with a lacklustre performance on Sunday, with chances coming few and far between. And Deportivo striker Joselu rightly gave the hosts a deserved lead in the 40th minute.
Luis Suarez, though, equalised for Barcelona just into the second half as he shot a thumping strike past German Lux after finding himself in acres of space. But, Pepe Mel’s men had one last fight in them as Alex Bergantinos headed in from Faycal Fajr’s corner in the 74th minute to seal a crucial win for Deportivo.
The result sees Deportivo climb to 15th in the table, while Barcelona still remain on top, a point ahead of Real Madrid who will play later on Sunday. Here are the best tweets in the aftermath of Sunday’s match.
