Arsenal urged to sign Youssef En-Nesyri by Kevin Campbell

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Sevilla forward Youssef El-Nesyri, and former striker Kevin Campbell backs the move.

Arsenal signed six players this past summer, all under the age of 23, as part of their new look policy and rebuild. Mikel Arteta would want more new signings next summer to continue his squad setup, with a striker high on the agenda. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah could depart when their contract expires, leaving the team short on options.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has cemented his place as Arteta’s first-choice forward, while Gabriel Martinelli is considered more effective from wide areas than centrally. This means Arsenal could dip into the market for a striker, as their recent links to Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin suggests.

They are also linked with Sevilla’s 24-year-old striker Youssef El-Nesyri, who has grown rapidly in the Spanish side. The Morrocan scored 24 goals last season while already netting three in six games so far. He is of understandable interest to Arteta, who is pondering doing a deal in January while weighing up sending Lacazette the other way.

Lacazette increasingly looks to spend the season at the Emirates, meaning a move for a new striker will have to be put off until next summer. El-Nesyri certainly fits the profile of a mobile striker Arteta needs, as the club ponder making a sizeable offer for the Morrocan.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell likes the idea of El-Nesyri playing at the Emirates and backs the move. Speaking to The Highbury Squad podcast, Campbell had a few good comments about the striker posted by the Metro.

Campbell said, “Good player, really good. For me, he would definitely come in and carry a threat. I will tell you that much. He will carry a threat top end of the pitch. He has good size, speed, knows where the goal is, he is skilful too.”

The Morrocan could be a good addition to compete with Aubameyang and potentially replace the Gabonese to become Arteta’s long-term No. 9 at the club. He has shown there’s a high ceiling for his development from his displays, and an offer from Arsenal could tempt El-Nesyri.
