Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged the Gunners to sign Bayern Munich stars Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
Arenal are doing a decent job in the ongoing season. They are currently third in the Premier League with 27 points out of 12 matches with just one defeat to their name. Despite that former Gunners star Emmanuel Petit feels they need to make a few major changes to get their hands on the Premier League title.
The former Arsenal defensive midfielder feels they need to make better use of their summer signing Declan Rice. The Gunners broke the bank and paid a club-record fee of £105 million to sign the England international from West Ham United.
Since arriving at the club, he has featured in a total of 18 matches and has even contributed towards four goals. The 24-year-old has featured as a number six as well as number eight. And, Petit feels Mikel Arteta should not be using the England international as an eight.
Rice will be at his best while playing as a defensive midfielder. As a result, Arteta should try to get the best out of their summer signing by playing him a six.
Petit said: “Declan Rice’s priority for Arsenal should be to maintain the balance of the side and to win the ball back for his team,”
“He does those things so well. I think he is wasted a bit in that number 8 role where [Granit] Xhaka played last season because he is such a brilliant holding midfielder.
The former defensive midfielder has urged them to sign Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich. Both the players’ arrival could bolster the Arsenal midfield to a great extent. They have quite a lot of experience playing for the German giants. They have done it at the biggest stage and their arrival could be a big boost for their dressing room.
Kimmich in particular has been strongly linked to a move to England. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2025. And, with his contract running out in just over 18 matches Bayern could be forced to offload him if he doesn’t pen down a new deal.
Meanwhile, Petit feels Arsenal should go hard for the duo. They have been at Bayern for quite a while now and could look for a new challenge. The former Arsenal midfielder feels they could help them push for the league title even if their price tag might be on the higher side.
He further added: “The main two players I would target if I was Arsenal would be Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka.
“They are both incredible players with huge experience who have both been at Bayern for a while and would maybe like a new challenge.
“Goretzka has played at such a high level for so long and is still only 28, and I think Kimmich would be great for Arsenal, even if the price tag may be a bit expensive.”
