Danny Mills insists Arsenal could make a game-changing signing if they can prise Georginio Wijnaldum away from PSG in January.

Georginio Wijnaldum ended his tenure as one of Liverpool’s most successful players under Jurgen Klopp when he moved on after his contract at Anfield expired in the summer. The midfielder was instrumental in the club’s success when they achieved Champions League and Premier League glory.

Despite Liverpool’s insistence on keeping him for more years, the Dutchman decided to take up a new challenge and grabbed headlines when he moved to PSG. The midfielder was about to sign for Barcelona before the Parisians swept in with a more lucrative offer.

The midfielder has cut a frustrated figure in Paris despite the financial gain as he remains unsettled under Mauricio Pochettino. Starting only half of his 20 games so far, Wijnaldum reportedly wants out, and a temporary loan move out of Paris might be possible in January. A host of Premier League sides are ready to pounce if the opportunity arises.

Arsenal are also reportedly interested in bringing the experienced midfielder to the Emirates. The Dutchman could be a valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s misfiring midfield roster if the conditions are right. The Gunners have had bad luck with injuries to Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey’s loss of form.

Moreover, they have relied upon the young shoulders of Albert Sambi Lokonga, who might not be the player to carry them for the entire season. However, Arsenal face competition from Newcastle United, who are prepared to re-sign Wijnaldum in January to avoid relegation.

Danny Mills suggests it would be a ‘game-changing’ signing for the Gunners and insisted the club should sign him if they could. Speaking to Football Insider, Mills pointed towards Wijnaldum’s achievements as a player and what value he could add to Arsenal.

Mills said, “If you could get him, it would be a fantastic signing. Why wouldn’t you take him? He’s proven that he’s a really good player with experience of winning things. He could make a real difference to that midfield. If you could get him it would be a fantastic signing and a real leader. Even if it’s on loan until the end of the season, I think it would be a good signing.”

It will be interesting to see whether the Dutchman ends up securing a return to England just six months after leaving.
