Chelsea are having a mediocre season by their standards and manager Mauricio Pochettino is under a lot of pressure.
There have been rumours that Chelsea could look to dismiss the Argentine manager at the end of the season and Sky journalist Massimo Ugolini has now fueled speculations by claiming that Antonio Conte could return to Stamford Bridge.
Ugolini has claimed that the Italian could return to Chelsea at the end of the season and he would be welcomed with great enthusiasm. He also added that a return to Juventus is on the cards as well. Conte is currently without a job after parting with Tottenham Hotspur last season.
He said (via Bianconera News): “He could also return to Chelsea, he would be welcomed with great enthusiasm. Also, keep an eye on Juventus.”
It will be interesting to see if he decides to return to the Premier League at the end of the season.
End of the road for Mauricio Pochettino?
Chelsea could certainly use a new manager given the way the team has performed this season. They have spent a significant amount of money in the summer but Pochettino has failed to get the best out of his squad.
Perhaps a fresh start would be ideal for them. A new manager could lift the spirits around the club.
Conte knows the club well, and he might be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact. The Italian manager has previously won the league title with Chelsea and he would be a proven appointment.
The Italian is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world and Chelsea would do well to convince him to come back. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
A club of Chelsea’s stature is expected to compete for major trophies and play in the Champions League. They finished in the midtable positions last year and it seems that the Blues are heading in a similar direction this year as well. They will need to bounce back quickly and a world class manager could help them get back to their best.
