Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga has admitted that he is frustrated with the lack of first-team action at Old Trafford this season.
Anthony Elanga revealed to Afton Bladet (h/t 90min) that it is frustrating that he has been a squad player this season and wants to play regularly. The 20-year-old has also revealed that he has already spoken to Erik ten Hag regarding his situation and he will continue to train hard and hope that an opportunity comes his way.
“It is frustrating. You want to play. It is important. But if you don’t play, it’s not up to me but up to the coach. I have spoken to Erik and it is private between the two of us. I know what he wants me to do and I can just keep training hard.”
“When the opportunity comes, I just have to be ready to take it. We have a lot of dialogue, not only about it but also what is happening around. That’s the good thing about the club, we talk a lot and they help me a lot.”
The winger is highly-rated at Manchester United, and he has a big future ahead of him. The 20-year-old needs regular football to continue his development and fulfil his potential. If Manchester United cannot provide him with that opportunity, the Red Devils should look to cash in on him at the end of the season.
Manchester United already have players like Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho at their disposal. Furthermore, talented youngster Alejandro Garnacho has also established himself as an important first-team player this season.
Elanga is probably the fifth-choice winger at the club right now. So it behoves him to prioritise leaving Manchester United in the summer after being linked with clubs like Borussia Dortmund in January. There is no doubt that he has the potential to develop into a top-class player in the future. But his chances at Manchester United seem bleak for now.
The Red Devils will hope to challenge for major trophies next season, and they are likely to invest in established stars during the summer transfer window. Elanga could find himself further down the pecking order and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up during the summer transfer window. Manchester United could try and loan the player out for the next season as well instead of selling him permanently.
