Andy Robertson heaps praise on Mohamed Salah amid transfer links

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson is full of praise for their 31-year-old star man Mohamed Salah who was linked with a move to Al-Ittihad during the summer.

Mohamed Salah was subject to a lot of interest from Al-Ittihad throughout the recently concluded transfer window. The Saudi Pro League clubs were quite active throughout the summer. They acquired the services of some high-profile players from Europe and wanted to add Salah to their ranks but failed to strike a deal with Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the Egypt international’s club teammate Andy Robertson has had his say on the transfer saga involving the 31-year-old. The Scottish full-back has heaped praise for Salah. He said that the former Chelsea player conducted himself brilliantly on the pitch while talks regarding his future were all over the media.

Salah joined Liverpool back in the summer of 2017 after reviving his career at AS Roma. After arriving at the Merseyside club, the Egypt international went from strength to strength and has helped them win numerous titles over the years.

He has featured in a total of 310 matches for the Reds and has contributed towards 271 goals. The 31-year-old has found the back of the net on 188 occasions and he also has 83 assists to his name. While the Merseyside club struggled last season, he still ended up racking up a total of 46 goal contributions in 51 games.

While Salah is an integral part of Liverpool’s first team and still had two years left on his deal, there were doubts over his future towards the later half of the window. Saudi Pro League clubs were going all out in the market and they had already signed Jordan Henderson and Fabinho from Liverpool.

And, Fabinho’s Al-Ittihad now wanted to land the 31-year-old at the club. According to reports, they were ready to make him the highest-paid player in the league ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. And, were ready to submit a world-record bid for his services.

But, Liverpool had no intentions of selling their best players. Jurgen Klopp was keen on having him in his ranks for the 2022-23 season and they ended up rejecting all bids for the Egypt international’s services.

With the transfer window now done and dusted, the 31-year-old is expected to continue at Liverpool until the end of the season. Salah has made a great start to the season with six-goal contributions in five matches. In their last outing against Wolves, the former Roma winger was on fire as he bagged two assists.

One of his assists was for his teammate Andy Robertson who talked about the importance of Salah in Liverpool’s team and his conduct on the pitch while the speculations regarding his future were going on during a post-match interview.

The 29-year-old said while talking to TNT Sports via 90min: “During the speculation, I thought he was superb on the pitch and there was a lot of talk outside it. Now that’s all done and dusted, I thought he put in a good second-half performance like we all did, first-half we all were not at it.

“He probably only gets credit when he gets goals which is slightly unfair, but he’s got us two assists today, he’s got us back in the game, created chances and second half he was really good.”
