Liverpool target Andre praised ‘excpetional’ Jurgen Klopp, as the midfielder remains linked with a January move to Liverpool.

Liverpool have courted Andre from Fluminense since the summer window when Jurgen Klopp was looking for an additional midfielder. The Brazilian was one of his earlier targets, but the complications of signing South Am, American players, especially those involved in the Copa Libertadores, ensured he couldn’t move.

Fluminense are in the Final of the Copa Libertadores and will face Boca Juniors. The Brazilian side was adamant about losing one of their most important players halfway through their season and, hence, chose to keep Andre despite the heavy interest.

Following Liverpool’s interest in the summer, more sides are keen on the midfielder. Arsenal and Newcastle United are also interested, but the Merseysiders may benefit from their initial groundwork to sign the midfielder.

Fluminense are open to discussions after the Copa Libertadores Final, which has given Liverpool and other interested sides hope. Instead of the Brazilian, Klopp brought in Japanese international Wataru Endo, who has only been on the periphery so far this season.

Liverpool are keen on finding an agreement before January, and if they make a concerted effort, they might have a better chance of landing the Brazilian. Now, Andre has praised Klopp and called him ‘exceptional’ but also touched upon the importance of remaining the Fluminense during the summer through his comments on Sport Witness.

Andre said, “I don’t like to project the future much. I have been at Fluminense for 10 years, I have a contract and I am very happy here. Reaching the final of the Libertadores is a childhood dream.”

“I follow the away games a bit and I know that Klopp’s work is exceptional. Without a doubt, he is a great coach, very intelligent and successful. But right now, my coach is Diniz.”

Liverpool will remain active ahead of the January window and look to sign Andre or any other midfielder that comes on their radar. Klopp may also look at further signings to strengthen different areas of his squad.

The German needs a new centre-back, preferably a left-footed option, while he’s also keen on signing a new right-back as a backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Bringing in someone like Andre will bolster their midfield and sit with the recent club midfield rebuild involving players in a typical age group.
