Alan Shearer slams Darwin Nunez amid goalscoring woes

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has had an underwhelming season so far, and he has scored just six goals and picked up five assists in all competitions.

Darwin Nunez  has been criticised heavily for the lack of goals and his decision-making as well. Premier League legend and former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has now slammed the Uruguay International for his performances this season.

Nunez has been quite mediocre in front of goal, and Shearer is unsure whether playing for Liverpool means enough for him. The 25-year-old has shown no improvement in terms of finishing and decision-making in front of the goal has been quite poor as well.

It has cost Liverpool valuable points in recent weeks. The striker missed an open goal chance against Aston Villa recently and it ended up costing his side two vital points in the title race.

Shearer said on BBC, “The really good goalscorers don’t let the missed chances affect them. You’ve got to keep getting in there. I’m not sure whether it means enough to him. I can’t say that for certain, but only on the eye and looking at him, that I don’t know.”

Liverpool should sell

The player has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in recent months, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to sell him in the summer. They paid a substantial amount of money for him, but the player has not been able to justify that investment. It is high time Liverpool invest in a reliable striker.

The Reds have been overly dependent on Mohamed Salah for goals and creativity. The Egyptian will be out of contract in the summer, and Liverpool have not been able to tie him down to a new deal. They will need to replace his end product and signing a prolific goalscorer should be a top priority for them.

Meanwhile, a move away from Liverpool would be ideal for Nunez as well. He has previously shown his quality at Benfica, but the move to the Premier League has not worked out for him. Perhaps a fresh start could bring out the best in him once again.
