Manchester United legend Andy Cole has approved of the Red Devils’ pursuit of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane this summer.
As quoted by Daily Mirror, Andy Cole has given his backing to Manchester United to sign Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window. The Manchester United legend has called the Real Madrid ace potentially a “fantastic signing” for the Red Devils.
The summer transfer window has been dominated by talks of Raphael Varane’s potential switch to Manchester United, especially after the Premier League heavyweights moved quickly to land Jadon Sancho this time around. The focus has now well and truly turned towards the Real Madrid centre-back, who is surely a viable target for the Red Devils.
Andy Cole certainly seems to think so as well, and as quoted by Daily Mirror, the Manchester United legend said, “If that happens, I think it’s going to be a big, big positive. He’s still very young for a centre-half and has played at the highest level for many many years now.”
“He’s won numerous championships and Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, World Cup winner. So he obviously has the qualities to bring Manchester United forward, so if it happens I think it would be a fantastic signing.”
Varane, who ought to be at the peak of his powers at the age of 28, can potentially provide the best years of his career to Manchester United. And the Real Madrid defender will possibly be a major upgrade on Victor Lindelof as well, with the Swede often blowing hot and cold last season.
As per the latest reports, Manchester United are closing in on reaching an agreement with Real Madrid over a deal for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. With Varane due to return to pre-season training with Real Madrid soon, the decisive days of this transfer saga are approaching.
Los Blancos, on their part, are scouring the market for replacements as well, with Matthias Ginter the latest central defender to be linked with them. As for Varane, Andy Cole has already given his approval to a possible move for the Real Madrid ace and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can finally end their long-standing pursuit of the Frenchman this summer.
