Three players Manchester United need to sign if they want Premier League top-four finish

Manchester United have enjoyed an impressive summer transfer window so far, having secured the services of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Manchester United were quite mediocre last season, and the arrival of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will certainly help them improve immensely. Both players were outstanding for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford, respectively last season, and it will be interesting to see if they can translate that form to their new club.

Cunha and Mbeumo are at the peak of their powers, and they will look to hit the ground running at Old Trafford. They are well-established performers in the Premier League, and Manchester United will hope that they can transform the team going forward.

Manchester United should now look to build on their impressive start to the summer transfer window and plug the remaining gaps in their squad. The Red Devils endured a disastrous 2024/25 campaign, finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table. A club of their stature should be finishing in the top four regularly and fighting for trophies.

Manchester United need more quality on the side if they want to secure Champions League qualification next season. Here at The Hard Tackle, we look at three players they should consider signing this summer to return to the UEFA Champions League.

Reliable Striker – Benjamin Sesko

The Slovenian international has been exceptional for RB Leipzig in the last two seasons, and he has proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer. He could prove to be the ideal long-term acquisition for Manchester United, who are in desperate need of a reliable centre-forward.

Rasmus H-jlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not been able to find the back of the net consistently, and Manchester United need an upgrade. The 22-year-old has shown his ability in the Bundesliga and possesses the physicality and technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League as well.

The opportunity to join Manchester United could be quite exciting for him. The Red Devils are among the biggest clubs in the world, and they could provide him with the platform to showcase his qualities in the Premier League.

The player has been linked with clubs like Arsenal as well, but the Gunners have decided to sign Viktor Gyokeres instead. Manchester United could now have a free run at Sesko, and it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal across the line.

Midfield Controller – Javi Guerra

The Spanish central midfielder has been linked with a move away from Valencia this summer, and he could prove to be a solid long-term acquisition for Manchester United. They need more creativity and control in the middle of the park.

The struggling Premier League giants have failed to dominate midfield contests in recent seasons, and it is evident that they need someone who can stitch the play together and add creativity from the centre of the park. The Spanish midfielder has demonstrated his quality in La Liga, and he is highly rated across Europe. He is expected to develop into an elite player with the right guidance. Ruben Amorim could bring out the best in him and help him develop further.

There is no doubt that Guerra could be an important player for Manchester United next season. The Spaniard has the technical attributes to thrive in the Premier League, and Manchester United will benefit from having a technically gifted central midfielder running the game from the middle. He could form a solid partnership with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.

Left-Back – Antonee Robinson

The United States international has been a reliable performer in the Premier League for quite some time, and his exploits have earned him interest from English bigwigs, including Liverpool and Manchester United. Robinson has been a key player for Fulham, and there is no doubt that he would be an upgrade on Manchester United’s current options.

Luke Shaw has struggled with persistent injury problems, and Patrick Dorgu is still coming to grips with the pace of English football. In addition, Tyrell Malacia has no future at Old Trafford, while Diego Leon is a work in progress. So, Manchester United need more quality and depth in that area of the pitch, and signing an experienced player would be ideal.

The 27-year-old United States international is at the peak of his powers, and he could hit the ground running at Old Trafford. The opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in the country will be exciting for him. Robinson might feel that this is the right time to take on a new challenge.

The Fulham mainstay will help Manchester United improve at both ends of the pitch, and he could prove to be an excellent acquisition for the Red Devils. In addition, Liverpool will unlikely return for a move after signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth earlier this summer.

It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils can address their main weaknesses over the next few weeks and build a formidable squad for the future. They have the bones of a very good squad, and a few intelligent additions could take them to a new level.
