Daniel Farke on the cusp of signing new Leeds United contract amid RB Leipzig links

Daniel Farke’s new contract at Leeds United looks imminent, dealing a blow to RB Leipzig’s hopes of appointing the German.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Farke is on the verge of signing a new deal with Leeds United and extending his stay at the club following significant progress under his management. RB Leipzig’s hopes of luring the German to the Bundesliga look set to be dashed, with Leeds prioritising continuity and further development.

Farke has been an important figure at Elland Road since his appointment in 2023, when the club’s priority was to return to the Premier League. Although he failed to achieve promotion in his first season, the 2024/25 campaign proved successful as he guided the team back into the top flight.

Following their return to the Premier League, things did not initially go well for the German manager, although he eventually oversaw a major turnaround. At one stage during the 2025/26 campaign, Leeds United were widely regarded as relegation favourites alongside Wolves and Burnley, but Farke eventually found a turning point.

That came in a defeat to Manchester City, when Leeds fell two goals behind. Despite losing 3-2, their fightback inspired the team to produce a series of improved performances. Leeds eventually finished in a respectable 14th place and have also made an impressive start to the new campaign.

Daniel Farke closing in on a new deal

Following the way last season ended, Leeds United planned to offer Farke a new contract. His current agreement expires at the end of the season, and although the club have been confident of reaching an agreement, external interest had created some concern.

Most notably, RB Leipzig had been monitoring the German and considering bringing him back to the Bundesliga as a potential replacement for Martin Demichelis following a poor start to the season. However, Farke is now close to signing a new deal, which would end Leipzig’s hopes of winning the race for his services.

Leeds United had planned to accelerate negotiations during the recent international break, and it appears they may have succeeded in their efforts. Farke is understood to have reached an agreement in principle with the club, with the German expected to commit his future to Leeds until at least 2029.

This is important from Leeds United’s perspective, as Farke has a historic record to chase. He currently has a 49% win rate at Leeds, placing him second behind the iconic Don Revie, who recorded a 53.31% win rate. Those are impressive numbers for the club, and if Farke remains in charge for the duration of his new contract, he could surpass Revie on the all-time list.
