Fulham will push for a Premier League-proven manager if they end up sacking summer arrival Alvaro Arbeloa.
Fulham are preparing to sack Alvaro Arbeloa and target a Premier League-proven manager after a disappointing start that has left the Spaniard facing mounting pressure. According to Football Insider, the Cottagers are ready to consider a more familiar face should they part ways with Arbeloa, with the club concerned about repeating a mistake they made after Marco Silva’s departure.
Arbeloa has endured a difficult opening six Premier League games, recording two draws and four defeats. Fulham have fared better in the EFL Cup, winning both of their matches, but their league form has left the club’s hierarchy increasingly concerned.
Their latest setback came against Ipswich Town, where the Cottagers appeared on course to secure their first league victory before conceding twice late in the match to lose 2-1. The result was viewed as a “damaging setback” by the club’s decision-makers, particularly given the encouraging signs earlier in the contest.
Arbeloa given two games to save his job
Following that defeat, they remain rock bottom in the league, and it has left Arbeloa facing a defining period in his tenure. As per reports, he effectively has two games to save his job, with Fulham preparing to face newly promoted Hull City and Coventry City.
Hull City will visit Craven Cottage this weekend before Fulham travel to Coventry on October 24. The hierarchy reportedly prepared to dismiss Arbeloa if his team fail to win either match.
The West London club’s priority is to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle after their difficult start. Although two EFL Cup victories have offered some encouragement, they have not been enough to compensate for the lack of progress in the league.
Fulham had hoped Arbeloa would bring a fresh approach following Silva’s exit, but the early results have raised doubts about whether he is the right person to lead the club forward. The hierarchy has given the former Real Madrid boss two games to save his job.
If the 43-year-old Spanish tactician fails to get the desired results, they will look for someone who has already proven himself in the English top flight and can have an immediate impact at Craven Cottage.
