Manchester United have received a boost in pursuit of former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.
Julian Nagelsmann is open to a Manchester United move as Michael Carrick’s position comes under growing pressure at Old Trafford. According to Indykaila News, club sources have confirmed that United have started formal work on identifying their next head coach, with the 39-year-old former Bayern Munich coach’s representatives willing to assess the project’s fit with their client’s footballing philosophy.
Senior figures at Manchester United are understood to have concerns about Carrick’s suitability to take the team to the next level, particularly from a technical perspective. The current head coach is reportedly facing an uphill battle to retain the job, with the club expecting a change could be necessary.
Carrick took charge midway through last season and enjoyed an impressive run, guiding United to a third-place finish in the Premier League and securing their return to the Champions League. His achievements convinced the hierarchy to hand him a two-year contract as permanent manager.
However, the early stages of the new campaign have been far less convincing. Despite midfield reinforcements in summer, Manchester United have won only two of eight matches across all competitions.
In the Premier League, the Red Devils have won one of six matches. An early elimination from the EFL Cup has added to the frustration, while their failure to beat a 10-man Tottenham Hotspur side last time out has raised further questions about Carrick’s ability to turn things around.
Manchester United have their eyes set on Julian Nagelsmann
Manchester United’s hierarchy are now believed to be exploring alternatives, with Nagelsmann potentially offering the technical expertise and tactical flexibility they want in their next appointment. The contrast in experience marks a potential recalibration of United’s approach to defensive organisation and in-game adaptation, areas where Carrick has shown inconsistency this season.
Nagelsmann has built an impressive managerial reputation through his work in Germany. He enjoyed success with RB Leipzig before taking charge of Bayern Munich, where he won the Bundesliga title. His subsequent appointment as Germany head coach further underlined his standing in European football.
The 39-year-old is now available for a new challenge after leaving his position with the German national team following the World Cup, making him a potentially attractive option for Manchester United. His representatives are reportedly willing to hear what the Premier League club have to offer, although that does not guarantee he will accept the position.
For Carrick, the situation represents a significant challenge. His previous success has bought him some goodwill, but Manchester United’s disappointing results have placed his position under growing scrutiny. With the club reportedly beginning its search and Nagelsmann open to discussions, a managerial change at Old Trafford remains a serious possibility if performances fail to improve.
