Fulham eyeing Arne Slot as Marco Silva replacement

Fulham may turn to former Liverpool manager Arne Slot to replace Marco Silva this summer, with the Portuguese tactician calling time on his spell at Craven Cottage.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arne Slot is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are scouring the managerial market for a long-term replacement for Marco Silva, who has left the West London club. The former Liverpool manager has thus emerged as one of three targets on Fulham’s wishlist, with the Cottagers “preparing to open talks” with the 47-year-old.

Arne Slot and his managerial career so far

Arne Slot has become a household name since entering the managerial sphere nearly a decade ago. The Dutchman was a solid midfielder during his career as a footballer, but he went under the radar despite playing in the Eredivisie and representing well-known clubs like NAC Breda, and PEC Zwolle.

The 47-year-old entered the managerial world in 2016, taking over at SC Cambuur for a short stint before rising in prominence during his spell with AZ Alkmaar. However, Slot’s stock soared during his spell with Feyenoord, spending three seasons at De Kuip and winning the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup. Those exploits earned him a move to Liverpool, and the Reds won the Premier League title in his debut season.

However, the Reds were dreadful in his second season at Anfield, failing to win a trophy and only managing a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League. The horrendous performances rightly invited relentless criticism, and the Merseyside club sacked him last week before Andoni Iraola took over as the new head coach. However, Slot may not be unemployed for long.

What next for Slot?

Recent reports have linked Arne Slot with AC Milan, with the Rossoneri combing the market for a new head coach after sacking Massimiliano Allegri. While the Dutch tactician has reportedly held talks with the Serie A giants, Fulham will offer him the chance to redeem his image in the Premier League.

The Cottagers have a gaping hole to fill in the managerial hot seat after a fruitful union with Marco Silva. However, with the Portuguese tactician vacating his role to inch closer to a move to Benfica, the West London club must procure a replacement. Recent reports have linked Fulham with Oliver Glasner, but Slot is also a viable target.

The Dutch tactician’s tactics should suit Fulham’s current squad, but he can succeed at Craven Cottage with a solid summer transfer window. The 47-year-old Dutch tactician may feel he has a point to prove after his stint with Liverpool ended in a whimper this summer.
