Jose Mourinho set to sign two-year contract with Real Madrid

Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is set to sign a two-year deal at Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho is on the verge of securing a return to Real Madrid. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese manager will be signing an initial two-year deal at the Spanish club, with all terms verbally agreed between both parties. He is set to travel to Madrid after their final La Liga game to sign all documents.

Mourinho is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the world because of what he has achieved with different clubs across Europe. The 63-year-old was in charge of Los Blancos from 2010 to 2013. While he failed to guide them to the UEFA Champions League title, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss did enjoy a lot of success domestically.

Under him, Real Madrid were one of the best teams in direct counter-attack. They used to dismantle defences on offensive transitions, and he will be hoping to have a similar impact upon his return to the club. While Mourinho has not had the best of times in recent years, the Madrid job might actually give him the opportunity to re-establish himself as one of the best managers around.

Mourinho could be the perfect fit for Real Madrid

While a lot of people are already questioning the decision, the Portuguese manager might be the perfect manager to bring order and discipline to this Real Madrid locker room. Given how things ended with Xabi Alonso and all the chaos under interim boss Alvaro Arbeloa, Florentino Perez wants someone who can take control of the dressing room.

A figure big enough to control the egos that seem to be going at each other is just what the Merengues need. Meanwhile, his tactics could bring the best out of players like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. Even Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham could thrive under him as the creators.

Perez has an excellent relationship with Mourinho, and the Real Madrid president is the driving force behind his potential return. While the SL Benfica boss denied holding direct talks with Madrid, his agent Jorge Mendes has been at work for weeks.

Benfica did try to keep hold of him and tabled a new deal, but the 63-year-old has his heart set on returning to the Santiago Bernabeu. He has given the green light to the move, and paperwork is being finalised for him to seal the deal.
