Xabi Alonso is the reported choice for Liverpool to replace Arne Slot, as the latter’s time at the club could come to a close.

The former midfielder is considered the favourite candidate to take over from the Dutchman in the summer, as his dismissal is thought to be imminent following their most recent loss.
Liverpool have made things difficult for themselves in their bid to achieve Champions League football. While they remain in contention in the competition after beating Galatasaray to reach the quarter-finals, their prospect of qualifying for the tournament via their league finish has hit a major stumbling block.
The loss to Brighton at the weekend weakened their position in the table, whilst strengthening those of Aston Villa and even Everton to an extent. Many sections of the Liverpool fanbase had been calling for the sacking of Arne Slot ever since the team were out of the running for the title, but the club had earlier indicated they were willing to stick with their title-winning coach.
However, the loss to Brighton has fuelled the idea of sacking Arne Slot, with Liverpool now seriously considering the idea. Xabi Alonso was seen as a viable candidate to replace the Dutchman, with earlier reports stating they had an agreement in place with the Spaniard.
Now, fresh reports from Germany insist that could be the case, as club head Michael Edwards could push for the appointment of the former Real Madrid boss. Alonso might be open to the idea, as per the report, as he is seemingly waiting in the wings for the club to decide on their existing manager.
