Predicted Liverpool lineup against Tottenham Hotspur: Frimpong to return; Gakpo benched again

Jeremie Frimpong will return to the Liverpool starting lineup when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool will aim to leapfrog Chelsea in the Premier League standings when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday evening. Arne Slot has no new injury concerns to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

The Dutch tactician continues to sweat over the fitness of Alisson Becker (knock) and Federico Chiesa (illness) after the duo missed the trip to Turkiye to take on Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg earlier this week.

Additionally, Giovanni Leoni (knee), Conor Bradley (knee), Wataru Endo (ankle), and Alexander Isak (leg) remain in the treatment room. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot was unable to provide a clear picture of Alisson’s fitness.

The Liverpool head coach said, “I’m hopeful but that’s not to say I’m 100 per cent sure. [Alisson] felt something when he passed the ball in one of his muscles [on Monday]. But after we checked it, it was so minor that we think it doesn’t have to take very long.”

“But as always, games follow up so fast that he had to miss the one against Galatasaray, and hopefully he’s available and ready for Sunday. If not, I’m expecting him – if things go as planned – definitely against Galatasaray.”

During his press conference, Slot also discussed Chiesa’s fitness. The Liverpool boss said, “I expect he feels better now because he felt unwell the day before the game and I think we’re now three or four further ahead.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili should deputise for Alisson between the sticks again, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The backline will feature Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez. So, Joe Gomez will drop to the bench after starting as the right-back against Galatasaray.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot, with Alexis Mac Allister reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Hugo Ekitike will lead the line for the home side against Tottenham, with Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah completing the numbers in the offensive unit. So, Cody Gakpo will be among the backup options on the bench for the Reds.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Mamardashvilli; Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Salah, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Ekitike
