Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg, and Como are all after former Manchester United chief goalkeeper scout, Tony Coton.
According to a report from Football Insider, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Como are all looking to strengthen their recruitment teams ahead of the next summer transfer window. They want to add an experienced goalkeeping scout to their ranks and have their eyes set on former Manchester United chief Tony Coton.
Coton, who was United’s goalkeeping coach during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time at the club, returned to Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 as a chief scout. During his second stint at the club, which lasted around five years, he helped them identify quite a few top talents.
The 64-year-old has made quite a name for himself in recruitment circles, thanks to his impressive work at Aston Villa and Sunderland before returning to United. Back in the day, while he was a goalkeeping coach at the club, he played a massive role in helping the Red Devils sign Edwin van der Sar, Tim Howard and Ben Foster.
Last summer, Coton was instrumental in pushing the club to sign Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The 23-year-old has established himself as United’s undisputed number one and is proving to be one of their best signings in the recent past.
Three European clubs are after Coton
Coton left United last summer and is currently on the lookout for his next job. Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Como are all looking to make additions to their recruitment teams, and Coton seems to be quite high on their wishlist.
The amount of experience he has gained by working at Old Trafford for over 15 years has made him one of the most highly-regarded goalkeeping scouts across Europe. All three clubs believe his experience and expertise could come in handy. As a result, they are looking to appoint the 64-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window.
With two German clubs and an Italian outfit after his signature, it will be interesting to see where Coton ends up ahead of an all-important summer transfer window.
