Mikel Arteta told to win the Premier League title to keep his job

Arsenal have informed Mikel Arteta that he will have to win the Premier League title to keep his job following Manchester United defeat.

Mikel Arteta has done wonders at Arsenal. The Spanish manager has helped the club re-establish themselves as a giant in the English top flight. The board is appreciative of the progress they have made under him, but now they seek immediate results.

They have grown tired of waiting for a major silverware. Following their defeat to Manchester United, the club have handed Arteta an ultimatum. According to a report from Fichajes, the Spanish manager will have to win the Premier League title to keep his job.

Patience has finally run out at the North London club, and they have made a concrete decision regarding their project under Arteta. After assisting Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Arteta took the Arsenal job towards the end of 2019.

He has rebuilt the club from scratch and has taken them back to the top. Under him, the Gunners have won a couple of trophies, but they are yet to win a major piece of silverware. While he has built a world-class team and they have been consistent performers in the Premier League, Arteta hasn’t been able to guide them to the league title.

Arteta handed an ultimatum

They have come close on multiple occasions, but haven’t been able to get over the line. They are currently top of the table and have a seven-point lead over the second-placed Manchester City, having played an extra game. While they have just smashed Leeds, they lost to Manchester United (3-2) last week, and it was a massive blow to their title hopes.

The defeat has put Arteta under pressure, as the board seems to have informed him that the project will only continue if they win the league. Since they backed him in the summer and forked out around €294 million in the summer, the board are certainly right to expect big results.

They have been very patient with the Spanish manager, but now they feel the club needs to kick on and win big. The club feels they have provided Arteta with everything he needs to succeed. As a result, they are no longer willing to play the waiting game.
