Xabi Alonso’s presence in the market has piqued the interest of some of the top Premier League teams in a bid to appoint the former Real Madrid boss.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are the latest team to express an interest in appointing Xabi Alonso as their next full-time manager. They are not alone in the race for the 44-year-old former Real Madrid manager, as Manchester City and Liverpool are also keen.
Real Madrid took a firm decision on the future of Xabi Alonso and chose to sack the Spaniard from his post in the last few days. While the decision to part ways has attracted plenty of criticism towards the club and president Florentino Perez, the Spaniard’s ready availability in the market has piqued a lot of interest, particularly from the Premier League.
Manchester United are the latest to consider Alonso as an option to become their next permanent boss. The Red Devils sacked Ruben Amorim, and after a brief period since his dismissal, they have appointed Michael Carrick on an interim role until he end of the season.
They are expected to hunt for a new permanent boss, with a host of names being linked, including Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann. PSG manager Luis Enrique and Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi are also candidates, and so is England boss Thomas Tuchel.
However, Alonso’s availability adds a new layer to the race, as they could look at the 44-year-old former Real Madrid manager as a potential option. They are not alone, as Manchester City and Liverpool are also interested, with either of those clubs looking to potentially address their managerial situation if either Arne Slot or Pep Guardiola departs in the near future.
Xabi Alonso to the Premier League?
The Premier League is a big option and possibly the likeliest destination for Alonso to resume his managerial career. Liverpool had an interest in him before they appointed Arne Slot, but they could part ways with the Dutchman as contract talks are not taking place, while they might be unhappy with how the season has panned out.
Manchester City were linked with Enzo Maresca as a potential option to replace Guardiola should the Catalan boss depart at the end of the season. Now, with Alonso’s availability, they are expected to look at the 44-year-old former Real Madrid manager as an option to replace the revered Spanish boss.
