Predicted Manchester United lineup against Burnley: Zirkzee in for Heaven; Bruno Fernandes in contention

Joshua Zirkzee will return to the Manchester United starting lineup when they lock horns with Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

Manchester United will kick-start the post-Ruben Amorim era when they lock horns with Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night. Darren Fletcher has received positive updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount are closing in on returning, and they should be in the matchday squad against Burnley. Kobbie Mainoo (calf) has also stepped up his recovery, but Wednesday’s game has come too soon for him.

However, Harry Maguire (hamstring) and Matthijs de Ligt (lower back) remain in the treatment room. Additionally, Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Mbeumo, and Amad Diallo are still at the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Fletcher provided fitness updates on Mount and Bruno Fernandes.

Manchester United’s caretaker boss said, “Mason and Bruno were pushing to play against Leeds. The decision was that they weren’t quite ready, so they’ve trained. They should be back in the squad, but they’ll be on managed minutes as well, restricted minutes because obviously they’ve just returned to training”

“That’s good news, especially the fact that they’ve been in good form. Mason Mount’s form has been fantastic and we don’t have to speak about Bruno. He’s the captain, he’s the leader of the team so to have them available for selection is great news for me and for the players and for the club and for the fans.”

Senne Lammens is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Burnley on Wednesday, thus ditching the infamous 3-4-2-1 system that Ruben Amorim utilised during his ill-fated spell at the club. The backline will feature Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw, with Ayden Heaven dropping to the bench.

As for the midfield unit, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte will pair up in the double pivot, with Joshua Zirkzee reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Benjamin Sesko will lead the line for the away side against Burnley, with Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha completing the numbers in the offensive unit. So, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes will be among the backup options on the bench.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Ugarte; Dorgu, Zirkzee, Cunha; Sesko
