Official: Ruben Amorim sacked by Manchester United

Premier League giants Manchester United have parted ways with 40-year-old Portuguese manager, Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim, as confirmed by an official statement from the club. The former Sporting CP boss’ 14-month spell at Old Trafford has come to an end.

Amorim took charge at Manchester United midway through last season after they parted ways with Erik ten Hag. While the Portuguese tactician had a decent start, he warned the fans about a potential storm. The Red Devils ended up having their worst season in Premier League history, as they finished 15th in the standings with just 42 points in 38 outings.

The Premier League bigwigs even ended up losing the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. After a disastrous campaign, the manager promised the fans that things would improve in his first full season in charge. The club also backed him in the transfer window, bringing in some world-class players during the summer.

While things have improved a lot in comparison to last season, as they are currently sixth in the Premier League, the Red Devils have been very inconsistent of late. They won three straight games in the Premier League back in October, and it resulted in a lot of optimism.

However, Manchester United have only won three games in their last 11 league outings, which is simply not good enough. Draws against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United in their last two outings have not helped.

Manchester United had lost faith in Amorim

While the Premier League club are only three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, they were no longer convinced about Amorim being the right guy for the job. The Portuguese tactician might have stuck with his system, but it has brought them the desired results on the pitch.

The major reason behind his departure is not the tactics or recent results; reports suggest the relationship between the club’s hierarchy and the manager had broken down. Since both parties were no longer on the same page, Manchester United have decided to pull the plug.

The 40-year-old Portuguese manager was already informed about their decision, and Darren Fletcher looks set to take charge on an interim basis. The official website confirms the former Scottish international will be leading them against Burnley on Wednesday.
