Predicted Liverpool lineup against Wolverhampton Wanderers: Gakpo in contention; Szoboszlai misses out

Cody Gakpo will be in contention to play for Liverpool when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool will be eager to continue the recent unbeaten run in the Premier League when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. Arne Slot has new roster issues to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Alexander Isak is the latest absentee after breaking his leg in the game against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. The Swedish international has joined Giovanni Leoni (knee), Wataru Endo (ankle), and Joe Gomez (hamstring) in the treatment room. Additionally, Dominik Szoboszlai will serve a suspension this weekend after picking up his fifth yellow card of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is away at the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Florian Wirtz is fit, while Conor Bradley (muscular) and Cody Gakpo (knock) face late tests to determine their availability. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot provided fitness updates on Bradley, Wirtz, and Gakpo. The Dutch tactician also discussed a possible start for Jeremie Frimpong.

The Liverpool manager said, “Friday we will see exactly where he [Bradley] is [and] if he can be in the squad for the weekend. Cody is a bit similar to Conor. He [Wirtz] will be there for us again on Saturday.”

“In the weekend he [Frimpong] was on a maximum of 30 minutes because he has been out for quite long. I think he is able to start this weekend if I make that decision.”

Alisson Becker is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. The backline will feature Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez. So, Bradley and Andrew Robertson will be backup options on the bench.

As for the midfield unit, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch will pair up in the double pivot, with Alexis Mac Allister reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Hugo Ekitike will lead the line for the home side against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo completing the numbers in the offensive third. So, Federico Chiesa will be a backup option on the bench.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Jones, Gravenberch; Gakpo, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Ekitike
