Manchester United have former coach Kieran McKenna on the shortlist to replace Ruben Amorim, alongside many other names.
According to TBR, Manchester United are probably ready to look for a Ruben Amorim replacement. Former coach Kieran McKenna is on the list of names that the club could target in the next phase, as there are many others the Red Devils could look at for the managerial position.
Ruben Amorim’s position could become untenable in the coming period should results continue to evade the Portuguese manager. Manchester United have not won two games in a row in the Premier League since the start of last season, and none under the former Sporting CP boss.
The upcoming game against Sunderland could prove decisive in determining Amorim’s future, as the weekend’s defeat to Brentford has added a new layer of speculation. Before that, Sir Jim Ratcliffe had fully backed Amorim to come good with this team, but losing confidence in the Portuguese tactician may not take too much time.
The likes of Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner were the early candidates linked with Amorim’s post, while Gareth Southgate is also seen as a strong contender. Xavi Hernandez is keeping close tabs on the managerial situation at Manchester United, as the former Barcelona man could be a good enough contender.
Kieran McKenna is the latest name to be added to the list, as the former coach could be seen as a viable option at least for the next phase. McKenna was a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom staff and did a job well enough to earn him recognition to become the next Manchester United manager.
Kieran McKenna could be a smart choice for Manchester United
Manchester United may have to consider plenty of factors before appointing a new manager. Those include the potential pay-off to Amorim and the idea of adding one of the more formidable names that would put them under a bit of financial pressure. In this regard, McKenna could be a smart choice for Manchester United, as he may not have the pressure compared to some of the other candidates.
McKenna was also a target for West Ham before the Londoners appointed Nuno Espirito Santo last week. After a season in the top flight with current side Ipswich Town, the prospect of managing Manchester United could appeal to McKenna, who might turn out to be a smart and viable choice for the Red Devils to replace Amorim.
