West Ham United could look to make a short-term managerial appointment if they end up sacking Graham Potter.
Graham Potter has failed to make the desired impact at West Ham United, and the East London club could soon show him the exit door. If they do sack him, the Hammers are reportedly considering a short-term managerial appointment to replace the former Chelsea boss, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Potter is under immense pressure, having suffered yet another defeat on Saturday. Having lost to Crystal Palace last time out, the Hammers have lost four out of their five league games. Overall, this was their fifth defeat of the new campaign.
The London club have only won six league games during Potter’s eight-month-long stint, which is simply not good enough. The Crystal Palace fixture was going to have a big say on his future, and having suffered yet another defeat, Chairman David Sullivan and co-chair Karren Brady have started considering their options.
West Ham could soon end up parting ways with Potter, who is waiting to find out his fate. The London club have already prepared a shortlist of targets. They are considering appointing Nuno Espirito Santo, Slaven Bilic and Gary O’Neil as possible replacements.
A short-term deal for the new boss
While West Ham United are ready to bring in a new manager, they are only looking to hand them a short-term deal until the end of the season. The performance of the team might decide whether to hand them an extension or not.
The short-term contract for the new boss might have a lot to do with the fact that Potter’s two-and-a-half-year contract has a break clause at the end of the season. Since he is unlikely to survive that long, they want to bring in a new boss on a temporary basis for now.
Bilic has managed and played for the Hammers in the past, and he seems open to a short-term deal. However, former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is believed to be the top target at this stage.
The former Tottenham manager worked wonders for the Tricky Trees last season, and West Ham believe he could be the ideal candidate to help turn things around. An informal approach has already been made, and he has been informed that he is on their radar to take over from Potter.
However, it remains to be seen whether Nuno Espirito Santo would be open to a short-term deal with West Ham United, especially with no shortage of interest in his services.
