Real Madrid will reportedly compete with two other sides to land 57-year-old former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp amid uncertainties surrounding Carlo Ancelotti’s future.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Jurgen Klopp is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The former Liverpool manager is currently the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull and is not rushing to return to the managerial sphere anytime soon. However, Los Blancos will compete with Brazil and the USA to land the 57-year-old tactician.
Jurgen Klopp and his legendary managerial career
Jurgen Klopp has been one of the best managers in the world for nearly two decades. A striker and a defender in his professional career, he represented almost half a dozen clubs but spent most of his playing days with FSV Mainz 05 before hanging up his boots in 2001.
The 57-year-old tactician immediately entered the managerial sphere after he called time on his professional career, taking over at FSV Mainz 05. Klopp enjoyed a legendary stint with Mainz, spending seven years at the Bundesliga club before joining Borussia Dortmund. He guided the Black and Yellows to several trophy-winning campaigns and the final of the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League campaign.
However, the German tactician reached the zenith of his managerial career during his spell with Liverpool. Klopp guided the Merseyside club to the elusive Premier League trophy, with the Reds winning every major trophy apart from the UEFA Europa League in his stint at Anfield. However, Klopp’s time at Liverpool FC culminated after the 2023/24 season ended.
Managerial return on the horizon?
Jurgen Klopp has been with the Red Bull group since January, taking over as the Head of Global Soccer in January. However, the former Liverpool manager remains highly sought-after in the market, with Real Madrid among three sides vying for his signature amid uncertainties surrounding Carlo Ancelotti’s long-term future.
While Ancelotti has guided Real Madrid to several trophies in his current spell with the club, he might depart from the Santiago Bernabeu after the 2025/26 season. Interestingly, the former Liverpool manager has been on Real Madrid’s radar for several years, and a move might finally see the light of day this year.
However, the USA and Brazil hope to beat Real Madrid to Klopp’s signature. While USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino is a target for Tottenham Hotspur, Brazil parted ways with Dorival Junior earlier this week. So, it will be interesting to see if the former Liverpool manager returns to the managerial world anytime soon.
