Serie A giants Juventus are considering replacing Thiago Motta with Fulham boss Marco Silva, with Tottenham also keen on the 47-year-old Portuguese tactician.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Marco Silva is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a new manager after parting ways with Thiago Motta. So, the Fulham boss has emerged as a target, with Tottenham Hotspur also interested in the 47-year-old Portuguese tactician.
Marco Silva and his resurgence
Marco Silva has come leaps and bounds since joining Fulham in 2021. A native of Lisbon, he was a journeyman in his professional career, playing as a right-back for as many as nine clubs. He hung up his boots in 2011 and immediately entered the managerial sphere by taking over at Estoril Praia.
Since then, the 47-year-old has endured a topsy-turvy ride in the coaching world, enjoying bright spells and poor stints at several clubs. Silva was at his lowest ebb after failing at Everton but has gone from strength to strength since joining Fulham in 2021, helping the West London club become a fixture in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Silva’s exploits for Fulham have not gone unnoticed, with his stock skyrocketing in the last few years. Manchester United once mulled over signing the Portuguese tactician before picking Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s replacement. Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
A big move beckons?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Marco Silva is understandable. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a manager amid uncertainties surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s long-term future. While the Australian manager has been unfortunate with fitness issues, he might not remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond this season if he does not deliver a trophy.
As for Juventus, Thiago Motta’s spell with the Serie A club did not last long. While the former Italian international is a highly-rated manager, he could not deliver the goods in his debut season with the Bianconeri. Igor Tudor has replaced Motta but will not be at Juventus for long.
So, Silva has emerged as a viable target for Juventus. However, Fulham will aim to tie the 47-year-old Portuguese tactician to a new contract, hoping to keep him away from Tottenham and Juventus.
