Marco Silva set for contract talks with Fulham amid Tottenham links

Tottenham have received a massive blow in their pursuit of Marco Silva, as he is all set to hold talks with Fulham over a new deal.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tottenham’s managerial target, Marco Silva, is set to hold contract renewal talks with Fulham. The Portuguese manager’s impressive work has put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe, prompting the Cottagers to secure his long-term future with a new deal.

While things did not work out for Silva at Watford or Everton, he has managed to rebuild his reputation since taking charge at Fulham. Since being appointed as their head coach back in the summer of 2021, Silva has completely transformed the team.

The Cottagers are eight in the Premier League, and they are just four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. They are very much in the race for a spot in one of the European competitions. People at the West London club are quite pleased with his performances, and they are looking to reward him with a new deal.

With just over 12 months left on his existing deal, there has been a lot of talk about his future. Quite a few clubs want to appoint the 47-year-old tactician as their new boss, Tottenham being one of them. Meanwhile, Fulham are pushing hard to extend his stay at the club as they want to avoid the risk of him being free to leave in the summer of 2026.

Silva unlikely to join Tottenham

Daniel Levy is believed to be a huge admirer of the Portuguese manager. While recent reports have suggested that they are not yet looking to sack Ange Postecoglou, things could change quickly if he fails to go further in the Europa League.

If they do end up parting ways with the Australian manager, Spurs would love to appoint Silva as his replacement. But, Tottenham have already received a blow in their pursuit as the 47-year-old is holding renewal talks with the Cottagers.

Silva’s current deal with Fulham has a release clause worth around £8 million, which is already a big hurdle for any interested club. That was one of the reasons why West Ham dropped their interest in him. Even the North London club won’t want to fork out that kind of fee and with them now pushing for a new deal, appointing him as their next boss could be out of their reach.
