Andoni Iraola is set for talks with Bournemouth over a new contract, which could come as a blow for Tottenham, who had set sights on the Spaniard.
According to Give Me Sport, Bournemouth are set to open talks with manager Andoni Iraola regarding a new deal for the Spaniard. Should the 42-year-old Premier League manager sign a new agreement with the Cherries, it will be seen as a blow for Tottenham in their efforts to prise him away.
Andoni Iraola’s impact at Bournemouth goes under the radar at times, although the progress is there to see. The Cherries are within touching distance of a top-four finish, as there is a feeling he will land European football in some shape or form ahead of next season.
Since taking over from Gary O’Neil, the Spaniard has revolutionised the club’s playing style as well as being a force in the Premier League. While he endured a difficult start to life, the 42-year-old Premier League manager has made this Bournemouth side into a force that can go toe to toe with some of the big teams in the league.
The club hierarchy are appreciative of his efforts and are now set to open talks with Iraola over a new deal. His current agreement has a release clause worth a reported £5 million, that would enable interested clubs to prise him away, with some of the top clubs already keen on the 42-year-old Premier League manager.
Chelsea considered him last summer before appointing Enzo Maresca, while Manchester City were interested in case Pep Guardiola did not sign a new deal. Tottenham are in the mix as well, with the North Londoners considering him as a replacement for the under-fire Ange Postecoglou.
Bournemouth talks a big blow for Tottenham
The idea of Bournemouth actively seeking a renewal of Iraola’s contract will come as a bitter blow for Tottenham in their efforts to land the Spanish manager. Postecoglou has been under pressure for several months now, and Thursday night’s Europa League game could potentially seal his fate in the Spurs dugout.
The report also emphasises the fact that Bournemouth are not opening talks with Iraola due to Tottenham’s interest, but for the continuation of the current project under the Spaniard. Spurs might still turn towards him in the close season if Postecogllou is no longer considered the ideal man to lead Tottenham. However, the terms to prise the Spaniard would be much more expensive than his current terms.
