Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are looking to appoint their former attacker Yossi Benayoun as their next sporting director.
Arsenal have been on the lookout for a new sporting director for some time now. While they have been linked with quite a few high-profile names, they are yet to finalise who will take up the vacant position at Emirates.
According to a report from Football Insider, the Gunners are interested in appointing former winger Yossi Benayoun as their next sporting director. He has already held talks with the club regarding the role but has yet to receive an offer.
Arsenal have taken giant strides in recent years. While they are yet to end their wait for the Premier League title, they have successfully re-established themselves as one of the giants in England. A lot of credit for their success goes to Edu Gaspar, who was in charge behind the scenes from 2019 to 2024.
The sporting director parted ways with the club last November, and ever since, Arsenal have been looking for someone who can replace him. They have been linked with some of the biggest names in the market, but nothing concrete has happened so far.
Benayoun could return to Arsenal
Yossi Benayoun has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant position. The 44-year-old wants to return to England, where he enjoyed great success as a player with West Ham, Chelsea, and Liverpool. He also had a one-year spell at Arsenal.
Benayoun is currently without a job since parting ways with the Israel national team last March. He is keen on getting back to work and prefers taking up a role in England. He has already held talks with the North London club about becoming their new sporting director.
While he has spoken to Arsenal officials about replacing Edu, nothing concrete has happened post that. They haven’t made any offers as they still evaluate whether he could help them fulfill their ambitions. But the Gunners are believed to be very close to making a final call on who will be joining them in that role, as they have been in contact with quite a few high profile names.
