Ange Postecoglou increasingly under pressure to save Tottenham job

Ange Postecoglou’s place in the Tottenham hot-seat will be under pressure after their display at Aston Villa on Sunday.

According to Give Me Sport, Ange Postecoglou’s position could become untenable should Tottenham crash out of the FA Cup against Aston Villa. The Australian tactician has come under increasing pressure following a disappointing season so far, as Daniel Levy could pull the trigger on his situation.

There are two sets of Tottenham fans at the moment, one who are firmly behind Ange Postecoglou with the blanket of the massive injury problems he has endured this season. The second section believes the manager must get the best out of the squad despite the long list of absentees, which has overall divided opinions.

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League standings. While they improved their position last weekend with a win over Brentford, things look the same following a loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final. Tottenham went to Anfield with an advantage from the first leg but were schooled by Arne Slot’s side as they crashed out of the cup competition.

There have been calls from Spurs fans to sack Postecoglou, but so far, Chairman Daniel Levy has kept him on board. However, the string that holds the Australian in his post is the possible chance to win a trophy this season, and the EFL Cup was their most significant chance so far.

The calls to sack him have increased since the loss to Liverpool, but Spurs are holding on to hope that Postecoglou will be able to steer them far in the FA Cup. Tottenham are set to face Aston Villa on Sunday, with suggestions that Postecoglou’s fate could be sealed should he not manage a win at Villa Park.

Who can replace Postecoglou at Tottenham?

One other reason for Levy to stick with Postecoglou is the evident fact that the managerial market is rather difficult at the moment. The club have faced challenges in the past in finding the right candidate for the job, as was also evident when they appointed the Australian. Names like Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola have been mentioned for the role, but there are no certainties on whether they will join the club.

In any case, Tottenham remains one of the most prestigious clubs in England and is situated in the heart of London, which does make it attractive. Hence, despite the idea of the club’s downfall, they are still in a position to bring in some of the notable names in the market, although Levy would ideally want that change in the summer.
