Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte will return to the Manchester United starting lineup against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Manchester United will be desperate to return to winning ways when they lock horns with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening. And Ruben Amorim has greeted positive updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte served their suspensions earlier this week and are ready to return to the starting lineup against Liverpool on Sunday. However, Marcus Rashford will miss the game due to illness, although the English international might not have featured anyway.
Victor Lindelof (muscle injury), Luke Shaw (calf), and Mason Mount (hamstring) remain on the sidelines. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Amorim provided a fitness update on Rashford and others.
The Manchester United manager said, “It’s the same situation but, at the moment, he’s ill. I think he’s going to be out this week. He’s not training so we will see.”
Meanwhile, a separate interview with MUTV ahead of the game has seen Amorim revealing Jonny Evans’s absence after the veteran defender missed training this week. The Portuguese tactician said, “No, I think Rashford is ill. Jonny is out. I think the rest – Vic is almost there and Luke also. But they are out. The others, I think, are fit.”
While Luke Shaw is closing in on returning, his continued absence means Diogo Dalot will start as the left wing-back. Andre Onana will take his spot between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 3-4-2-1 formation in front of him. The central defensive unit should feature Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, and Lisandro Martinez, with Noussair Mazraoui continuing as the right wing-back.
As for the midfield unit, Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo will return, with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen dropping to the bench. Finally, Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo will be the two creative midfielders, with Rasmus Hojlund leading the line for the away side against Liverpool. So, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony will be backup options on the bench.
