Alejandro Garnacho will return to the Manchester United starting lineup, while Marcus Rashford will miss out again when they host Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Manchester United will aim to return to winning ways when they welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. And Ruben Amorim has a new injury concern hampering his preparations ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Victor Lindelof is the latest absentee after picking up a knock in the EFL Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week. The Swedish international has joined Luke Shaw (calf) and Mason Mount (hamstring) on the sidelines.
In addition, the uncertainties surrounding Marcus Rashford continue after the English attacker missed the last two games, with Amorim excluding him from the matchday squads. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, the Portuguese tactician provided fitness updates on Lindelof and Mount.
The Manchester United manager said, “You can see with Vic. Vic was recovering; trained really well, we push him, we make all the sprints that he should do before coming to a game. But the game is a completely different world, so they have to have more time to train. So, it’s really hard. We try to manage that with rotation, but even with rotation is really hard to have all the squad.”
Amorim, while replying to a question about the timeline of Mount’s absence, said, “Several weeks. I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football and you continue. What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he’s recovering. To try to use that time for him to think about different things.”
The Manchester United boss continued, “I think the worst part is that we don’t have time to train like we should do, when you are recovering from a lot of injuries. With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end.”
Andre Onana will take his spot between the sticks, with Manchester United lining up in a 3-4-2-1 formation in front of him against Bournemouth. The central defensive unit should feature Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, and Lisandro Martinez.
Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot should be the two wing-backs. As for the midfield unit, Manuel Ugarte will pair up with Kobbie Mainoo in the double pivot. Finally, Rasmus Hojlund will lead the line for the home side, with Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes completing the numbers in the offensive trifecta.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez; Diallo, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dalot; Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
