Leicester City considering Ruud van Nistelrooy as Steve Cooper replacement

Ruud van Nistelrooy is under consideration for the Leicester City job following Steeve Cooper’s sacking at the weekend.

According to Fichajes, Ruud van Nistelrooy has entered the conversation of replacing Steeve Cooper in the Leicester City dugout. The Foxes’ board have drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements, with the 48-year-old Manchester United icon featuring high on that list.

Leicester City’s topsy-turvy season took a decisive turn over the weekend as the club decided to part ways with Steve Cooper following their loss to Chelsea. The former Nottingham Forest boss was not able to steady the ship despite posting some decent results in between. However, that has not proved enough to instil confidence in the Foxes board.

Back-to-back wins over Bournemouth and Southampton appeared to boost their chances of climbing up the table, but they have since suffered three losses in their last four top-flight games. Leicester City are sitting in 16th place, just a point above the danger zone, and they have now thought about fixing the issue with the sacking of Cooper.

The search for a replacement has been underway for some time, and Leicester City have considered a host of names to replace Cooper. The report claims they have drawn up a shortlist that includes some distinguished managerial names, such as David Moyes.

Graham Potter is also under consideration, while the name of Ruud van Nistelrooy is probably something they might strongly consider ahead of the next few days. The 48-year-old Manchester United icon is without a role in football after his departure from Old Trafford and the arrival of Ruben Amorim. In addition, it is believed the Dutchman is open to a new challenge.

Leicester City to appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy?

Ruud van Nistelrooy has already shown he has what it takes to manage a team in the top flight following his brief stint as Manchester United’s interim boss following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. He does have the interest of a few teams in the Premier League, including Leicester City. The idea of handing over the reins to the 48-year-old Manchester United icon will be seen differently, as their primary goal is survival.

The Dutchman has also reported that he applied for the Coventry City role, although he could prioritise a Premier League job if things worked out. Leicester City could be an interesting project to take on, as van Nistelrooy looks to build his credentials as a top manager in the game, and a sting at the King Power could be a good place to begin with.
