Erik ten Hag is on a shortlist of candidates that AS Roma are currently evaluating as they seek a high-profile managerial appointment.
According to Roma Press, Erik ten Hag is part of a list of two or three managers to take over the AS Roma job. The Italian side are partly interested in the former Manchester United manager, who is free to take up a new position following his departure from Old Trafford.
Roma are undergoing a period of uncertainty, as they have already sacked a second manager this season. Their first decision of the campaign came with the dismissal of Daniele De Rossi after the first four Serie A games, and then his successor Ivan Juric only got twelve games before he was given his marching orders.
The Freidkin group that owns the club is eager for stability and believes a better manager would be able to get things in order before things go out of everyone’s control. A few candidates are being debated in Roma’s boardroom, as Dan Friedkin wants to be former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag or Leicester City target Graham Potter, while Ryan Friedkin is keen to recruit Vincenzo Montella.
The split in the choices will be solved as all those candidates are interviewed, with the focus likely to fall on Ten Hag. The Dutchman recently suffered a sack from his Manchester United post after yet another dismal start to the new campaign.
Manchester United have stayed unbeaten since his departure as the club prepares for the beginning of a new era under former Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim. Either way, Ten Hag may not have to wait long before finding his next project, as Roma are set to interview the Dutchman for the role vacated by Juric.
Is Ten Hag the right fit for Roma?
Many believe Ten Hag could have been the victim of a toxic club culture at Manchester United. The same people think he can thrive at another top club, meaning Roma could be a good option for Ten Hag to continue his career, although there’s also reported interest from Borussia Dortmund.
Ten Hag might agree to become Roma’s new manager, although much will depend on how he convinces the club’s ownership about his ideas. Potter, on the other hand, has not worked for a long time since leaving his role at Chelsea, which does give Ten Hag a slight upper hand in this race.
