Ruud van Nistelrooy expected to leave Manchester United after Ruben Amorim arrival

Ruud van Nistelrooy looks all set to part ways with Manchester United upon the arrival of Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP.

According to a report from i News, Ruud van Nistelrooy is not expected to be around once Ruben Amorim takes charge as the new Manchester United boss following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. While the former Manchester United striker has taken charge as their interim boss for now, he is expected to leave the club upon the arrival of the Portuguese manager.

While Manchester United backed Erik ten Hag and handed him millions to reinforce his squad during the last summer window, they showed him the exit doors following their worst start to a new campaign. Van Nistelrooy was brought back to the club to be the Dutch manager’s assistant and help out and the young forward has taken charge on a temporary basis.

Ruben Amorim to be Manchester United’s next boss

Ruud van Nistelrooy might only be the interim for the Carabao Cup game against Leicester City on Wednesday as Manchester United have informed Sporting CP that they wish to trigger the release clause worth £8.3 million to bring Ruben Amorim to the club.

Amorim was approached back in 2022 by the Red Devils for the managerial role before ten Hag took charge. He has also been linked with a move to Manchester City and more recently, he was close to being the new Liverpool boss following Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

While those moves did not go according to plan, he could soon be seen on the bench of Old Trafford as everything was in place for a potential move. Sporting’s 3-1 win over Nacional is expected to be his last as their boss and an official confirmation should arrive shortly.

Ruud van Nistelrooy to leave United

The Red Devils hope to have Ruben Amorim on their bench for Sunday’s clash against Chelsea. While van Nistelrooy has taken charge as the interim for now, he could soon part ways with the club as Amorim is expected to bring his own staff with him from Sporting.

Two of his assistants at Sporting CP, Carlos Fernandes and Adelio Candido have been working with him for a long while. They have followed him at three clubs and are expected to join him at the Manchester-based club as well. It appeared that the former Manchester United striker could have the interim role for a while. However, his days at the club look numbered as things stand.
