Manchester United still in the race for Thomas Tuchel

Manchester United remain interested in Thomas Tuchel, who is reportedly more inclined to join them than take the England job.

Thomas Tuchel has been without a job since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season. The free agent is keen on returning to the mix and there seems to be no shortage of interest in him.

The FA are keen on appointing the former Chelsea boss as the new head coach of England. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United still have a chance to bring him to Old Trafford despite him being linked to the Three Lions’ job.

It is no secret that Erik ten Hag’s future is quite uncertain. United have had a poor start to the new season. They are currently 14th on the points table and if things don’t improve the Dutch managed will be sent packing. The club chiefs recently held a seven-hour-long meeting to decide his future.

They seem to have handed him a two-game window to get things back on track. Meanwhile, they are already working in the background to bring in a replacement. While quite a few top managers have been linked, Tuchel has been their top priority from the start.

Tuchel remains a top target for Man United

The Red Devils had held talks with the former Bayern Munich boss in the summer. But, back then he wanted to take a break from football and having been out of action for a while, the 51-year-old wants to jump right back in.

United want to bring him to Old Trafford but they were a bit concerned because of the growing reports of him being considered by the FA for the England job. The Football Association are looking at the Champions League-winning coach to take over from Gareth Southgate who left in the summer.

Tuchel is open to conversation with Wembley chiefs but his preference would be to remain in club management. The day-to-day nature of the role appeals more to him at this stage of his career.

While links with England, did cause panic at Old Trafford, United still have a chance of appointing Tuchel as their next boss as he wants to continue managing at the club level. He will give the United job the preference ahead of England.
