Amanda Staveley could take Eddie Howe to Tottenham

Ex-Newcastle United chief Amanda Staveley could take Eddie Howe to Tottenham if she ends up investing in the North London club.

Eddie Howe has done wonders at Newcastle United and his work has put him on the radar of multiple top clubs as well as the FA. He is one of the names on the FA’s list to take over as England’s next head coach following Gareth Southgate’s departure in the summer but according to a report from The Sun, the former Bournemouth boss could be headed to Tottenham.

Former Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley is in talks to buy a stake in Tottenham with the help of some investors from the Middle East. If things go according to plan, she could look to bring Howe to the North London club. She is believed to be a big fan of the English manager and he will become a top target to replace Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.

Howe took charge of the Magpies towards the end of 2021 just a month after their Saudi-backed takeover. He has taken the club places in the last few seasons. They have gone from battling relegation to featuring in the Champions League.

While Wembley chiefs are keen on appointing him as the next England boss, they are unlikely to pay a compensation fee to get their hands on the 46-year-old who has a contract with the Tyneside club until the summer of 2027.

Eddie Howe could move to Tottenham

But, Tottenham can surely afford to break him free of that contract. Ange Postecoglou did an exceptional job last season but the North London club have struggled to get going this time around. They have had mixed results and if things don’t improve, the chiefs could start looking for alternatives.

The report suggests that Howe’s name could shoot up the pecking order if Amanda Staveley manages to complete the purchase of a stake in Tottenham. He was a co-owner at Newcastle but ended up leaving the club. She wants to be involved in the Premier League and investing in Spurs is a way to make it happen.

Staveley is believed to be backed by cash from the Middle East and since she is a massive fan of Howe, the Newcastle boss could move bases. The projected buy-in is taking longer than expected and it is still far from complete. As a result, it will be too early to say that Howe could end up being the Tottenham boss. But, there is surely an outside chance.
